"Freedom's School" recounts the unlikely journey of Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, OK. Founded in 1913 by Principal E.W. Woods, who walked all the way from Memphis to Tulsa to start it, this historically black high school began life in a racially divided city. It survived Jim Crow laws and the single worst incident of racial violence in American history in 1921. Later it showed that racial integration by busing in white student volunteers could be successful in the south.
